Pain and Discomfort Caused by Varicose Veins

October 5, 2016 by Darren Leave a Comment

Because our senses are so subjective, what something feels like is often tough to describe. When it comes to varicose veins related pain, what each of us experiences and how we perceive it may be entirely different. So I think the best thing I could do is to briefly describe my own interpretation of the varicose vein discomfort I have experienced, and then tell you what else can be expected, at least on paper.

(Click here to learn how anyone can manage and treat varicose veins pain naturally, right from home).

From everything I have read, the pain I experienced came in the most common form: a dull, achy one. I felt a bit of throbbing, my legs felt a bit heavier than usual, but there was this definite dull achiness and pressure sensation that was never there before. Things are, unfortunately, a little hard to describe beyond that. That being said, when I read that this type of pain is exactly what I can expect with varicose veins, I immediately knew that is what I had. I hope my potentially subpar description will help you in a similar way.

What does leg pain caused by varicose veins feel like

In addition to the throbbing, dull ache and pressure sensation, some other forms of pain we can feel as a result of varicose veins include cramping, heaviness, soreness or tenderness. The pain may also be worse after standing or sitting for a prolonged period of time. A few of us can also experience itching around the veins. And any combination of these symptoms is a possibility.

The other tricky thing with varicose veins pain is that it is also possible to feel no pain at all. As you can see, things can be all over the place, sometimes making them hard to pinpoint.

My best advice is that if you think you may be experiencing pain caused by varicose veins (especially when backed up by visual confirmation of bulging, misshapen veins), try a few of the natural treatments we have used to manage our condition. They will make a difference. When the pain starts going away, you know you’re on the right track. All the remedies we talk about are easy to implement, all are affordable, and some even cost nothing more than a few minutes of your time.

Using Tomatoes To Treat Varicose Veins

October 1, 2016 by Darren Leave a Comment

On our quest to treat our varicose veins, we occasionally ran into some interesting treatment options that would normally never cross our minds. One of those was treating varicose veins by using tomatoes (click here to read about the natural treatments that worked for us).

How to cure varicose veins with the help of tomato you might ask? We were wondering the same thing. Apparently, it’s not all that difficult. So, as crazy as it sounds (it probably sounds more insane if you know me and my personality), I have decided to attempt this method. I thought I would give it a solid week, which should have been enough to start seeing any effects. Not surprisingly, my wife Melinda just flat out refused to participate.

The idea for this treatment is apparently rooted in Russian folk medicine. The logic behind it is that tomatoes contain a natural compound which thins the blood and improves circulation, much like regular aspirin. When blood flow is increased, whatever blood is pooled in the veins should be cleared out, thereby reducing varicose veins. Tomatoes are also loaded with a specific flavonoid known for strengthening blood vessel walls. Stronger vein walls also prevent the pooling of blood.

Example of using tomatoes to treat varicose veins

Any type of tomato can be used for this method. I arbitrarily opted for red over green. All you need to do is slice the tomato up, apply the slices to the area where your varicose veins are, and then wrap them with gauze or saran wrap to ensure they stay in place.

Shortly after application, you should start feeling a tingling sensation (which to my surprise I did). The tingling is supposed to be a sign that the tomatoes are doing their thing. The tomatoes should be kept on the affected area for between 3 and 4 hours. If during that time the tingling becomes too intense, the slices should be removed. Once you take off the tomatoes (for whatever reason), clean the area with cold water. This process is to be repeated daily for several weeks (that’s a lot of tomatoes), but you should start to see improvement very quickly.

Unfortunately, I cannot say that I saw or felt any improvement whatsoever. As odd as I found this treatment to be, I genuinely hoped this method would work (which is why I gave it a try in the first place). Wouldn’t it be great if you could treat your varicose veins for $1.50 per pound?

But alas, it wasn’t meant to be. So, if you are interested in treating varicose veins with tomatoes, my suggestion would be to abandon that plan. Instead, take a look at our list of proven natural treatments and proceed from there.
